Codex Gmail Manager is a private Gmail organisation tool operated by Danny Goh. It is used for Danny Goh’s own Gmail accounts and for a small number of individually authorised users. There is no public registration.
What it does
The tool connects Gmail to ChatGPT/Codex through an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that runs locally on a Windows computer. When requested, it can:
- Read mailbox labels and filters.
- Search for and retrieve selected emails.
- Create labels and filters.
- Apply or remove labels and archive messages.
How access works
Each Google account authorises access separately through Google’s OAuth consent screen. The tool requests two permissions:
gmail.modify: reading and organising messages and labels.gmail.settings.basic: managing filters.
Google’s gmail.modify permission also permits sending email. The current tool exposes no commands for sending, trashing or permanently deleting messages.
Where data goes
OAuth credentials remain stored locally on the operator’s Windows computer. Selected mailbox information and email content returned by the tool are shared with ChatGPT/Codex, provided by OpenAI, to fulfil the user’s requests. The Privacy Policy explains what is accessed, stored and retained, and how to revoke access.
